Where did HIV go? Nowhere. It's still here. Despite scientific advancements and increased awareness, the disease hasn't disappeared. Ironically, success in the fight against this pandemic has led many to believe HIV is no longer a problem. It's alarming that some think there's a cure; while others assume that living with HIV simply requires taking a pill or two.
HIV fatigue is also alarming. Many are tired of managing this devastating disease, tired of advocating, tired of contributing, tired of research and development and even tired of talking about HIV.
TAB, along with its supporters and beneficiaries, is not tired. We will continue dispelling myths, providing services and saving lives. Brother Jeff's Community Health Initiative, a TAB beneficiary, provides HIV prevention and education, as well as direct services to people living with HIV and AIDS. Last year, the initiative educated several thousand individuals across the state; supplied cases of free condoms and education materials; and helped people living with HIV and AIDS access housing, treatment and employment.
