TAB recognizes that the best way to combat HIV/AIDS in the future is through education today. With that in mind, the organization finds it paramount to be an informational source for current statistics while also focusing on increasing HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness, acceptance and tolerance.
TAB focuses on the gamut of education in San Miguel County and other communities near and far, providing year-round forums, services, and resources with help from its beneficiaries and the Telluride School District, both in the classroom and after hours. "My active involvement with TAB all through high school made me more aware and educated about the virus," says one former student. "I was able to educate my peers, meet amazing people living with HIV, sign a patch of the AIDS Quilt, and strut my stuff on the runway. This optimism helped me realize that being afraid is naïve. I've spent hours educating my college peers about the virus; telling them that anyone can contract it despite color, nationality, and sexual orientation; telling them that they shouldn't be afraid to get tested; telling them that the virus exists around them, whether they know it or not."
The impact TAB has on the youth of its community is widespread as the organization not only makes its events and activities informative, but fun and unique. Kids want to learn and want to be part of the action. In addition, the organization concentrates on educating adults as well.
While TAB hopes its services won't be needed some day because HIV/AIDS will disappear, it continues to expand and place a strong emphasis upon its educational programs.
