WestCAP began in 1985 as a grassroots effort in response to the needs of people dying from AIDS on the Western Slope. The primary goal was to help those with AIDS live the rest of their lives with dignity and quality. It was difficult then to imagine the future of WestCAP and what role we would continue to play in the lives of those infected with and affected by HIV.
In 1997, WestCAP served fewer than 40 individuals, and in 2011, we serve close to 220. In the last two years, WestCAP has doubled the number of new clients, serving well over 3,000 individuals with education and testing efforts.
TAB funds are integral in helping WestCAP clients, whether it's with education, outreach and testing or assistance to those infected with HIV. The most important aspect of the money raised by TAB is that its use isn't restricted as it is with federal and state funds. With TAB funds, WestCAP is able to meet the ever-changing needs of clients in whatever ways best enable them to be as healthy and independent as possible.
